Kenduri and Cute Billy goats

On Thursday night, I received a call from Mak N and cousin M. They wanted to organise my dad's tahlil on Saturday in Linggi. Which Saturday, I asked? next two days - say what? Apparently she has told her son earlier but he forgot to inform me. Actually I was quite close with this cousin when I worked in diffrent subsidiary of a holding company. It's just after my father's passing that I've treated him cooly. Well not him alone but the whole family.

It all started with Cousin OKB ( for orang Kaya Baru), who, after gotten some illgotten money through a corrupted politician, started calling my father by his name, when he should have referred to him as Pakcik/ Uncle and started making rude/ kurang ajar comments . We were quite close with A, my father recommended him for work and always visited him when we were in Seremban.

Eversince then, we sort of go to their mum's house, Mak N, a new one built by A only on harirayas and we would nip in a few minutes just for the sake of going there. We would happily give the house a miss if not for my dad, who insisted .

On the days in the hospital when dad was in coma, naturally everyone from my dad's family came. Mak N's sons, daughters and sons in law came. A's wife, kak L and daughter came, altho we didn't like him, we didn't extend it to his wife and daughter. A came too, a day later, loudly commenting tak lamalah tu. Kak A, whom I remembered as not all there, came also. I used to dislike talking to her as she was tactless and annoying. She came and commented something, which before, when faced with these comments, I would reflect that as she is older, I would just keep quiet. Well I aint small any longer and I refused to be pushed around. Cousin M came daily, to give his support, I was thankful for that but he pissed us off when he loudly commented that the man next to dad was dying.

Orang sebelah ni tak lama lagilah tu, muka dah pucat dah..

My sister and I were embarrassed. The man's sister was there beside him. And my sister ticked him off.

There is no end to the tactless of this family. In Linggi, after prayers, Kak An came to me and asked me

Bila dr cabut abah ...

Cabut!! Cabut Apa!!

I lost my head.

So, when they said they want to organise the tahlil, you know how hard for us to go. My brother and sister's first reaction was no- but they were doing it for Abah and Abah would have wanted us to be there.

I was late.. and I happily can put the blame on Dh. I was beside myself ..yelah.. I could hear the tongues wagging - orang kampung kan but decided what the hell. I nagged DH constantly, we can't be late for the event.. it is my dad's tahlil. But fell on deaf ears.. He said , they wouldn't have it on time. True enough, they were almost finishing the doa. GRR .. Why can't he understand when my dad's family say it's 1, it'll start at one.

We spent there- I think the longest that we have spent in the house. Of the children of my N, there were a few exceptions of course. Cousin R ( he himself a grandfather)was so close to Abah, till now the the mere mention of his name made him cry.
We then went to late Mak Ncik's house next door.

Now we love going to the house. We used to spend hours sometimes overnight there. Arwah Mak Ncik was kind. Now her son and daughter in law Kak Z lives there. They have geese and cute billy goats. The geese.. jgn main2.. when they see you approach they 'd put their head forward and dive straight at you. You have got to run very fast at least to the house, then they wouldn't go near you.

And the billy goats were so cute. The kids had whale of a time playing with the goats.. tho.. they were scared of them initially. Tina slipped and fell. And Kak Z's daughter Nani , showed Adik and Tina how to hold the tame goats. We managed to capture shots of the goats on its hind legs - nak capai the leaves from rambutan tree.

Afterwards we went to Abah's grave, sedekah yasin. Mum brought flowers and plant them near the newly made tombstone. Tina was initially afraid she said there were noises.

My current favourite song

Christina Aquilera

Seems like it was yesterday when I saw your face

You told me how proud you were but I walked away

If only I knew what I know today

I would hold you in my arms

I would take the pain away

Thank you for all you've done

Forgive all your mistakes

There's nothing I wouldn't do

To hear your voice again

Sometimes I want to call you but I know you won't be there

I'm sorry for blaming you for everything I just couldn't do

And I've hurt myself by hurting you

Some days I feel broke inside but I won't admit

Sometimes I just want to hide 'cause it's you I miss

You know it's so hard to say goodbye when it comes to this

Would you tell me I was wrong?

Would you help me understand?

Are you looking down upon me?

Are you proud of who I am?

There's nothing I wouldn't do

To have just one more chance

To look into your eyes and see you looking back
I'm sorry for blaming you for everything I just couldn't do

And I've hurt myselfIf I had just one more day,

I would tell you how much that I've missed you since you've been away

Oh, it's dangerous

It's so out of line to try to turn back time

I'm sorry for blaming you for everything I just couldn't do

And I've hurt myself

By hurting you

Cqistina -the baby of the family, turned 4 last may. Friday, I took the day off and spent some time with her. She now knows to spell TINA, MAMA, BABA, CAT, KAKA ( minus the K ) and believe it or not H-A-N-T-U. ( Adik taught her how to spell hantu). She's a really adorable, bright little girl- being her mom I'm biased.

Well yesterday.. she was playing with this toy that looked like a worm/snake.

Mama ni snake..

it's a worm

Mama tengok ni- snakelah mama

true enough- the snake/ worm thingy have something that looked like rattle.

You are right Tina.. It's a rattlesnake
She's really like a sponge- altho sometimes kena ajar sikit manners- call anyone Hey or kalau nak dapat attention she'd said Hel- lo ..

yesterday I heard her said ..What the hell .Discussed with Dh manalah dia the expression.. well .. we didn't realised we used it often.

Lately she been saying.. Apasallah mama/ kakak/ adik ni.. I realised I've been saying that too. Isn't it funny you don't realise that its you're favourite expression until you heard it from someone.

once.. her baba took his car to install new radio- she followed me to a shop selling bridal stuff- when she walked to to DH's car someone else was there tinkering with his car-

Hel-lo what are you doing here-

she's really gutsy and loves attention. Well .. she is the centre of attraction wherever she goes.. MOst comment on her -can't breathe if you put your nose on- her pipi, or her non stop singing/talking ness. Tak boleh nampak stage, she'll want to go up to sing or dance. We had problem keeping her away from the stage when she was two, at adik's concert.

And you should see her pose.

She loves mermaids. Pantang nampak mermaid books, puzzle, poster or dolls sure nak. I bought her a mermaid jigsaw puzzle. After showing her once, where to put the pieces she can finish it on her own.

So after bonding with me at Alamanda- I asked her ..

Tina suka tak pi Alamanda dengan Mama

I asked again

Apasallah mama ni tanya sampai dua kali

Kunyit / Turmeric

Last two weeks I watched Beauty Secrets from the East and Shasha went to Kerala again. She went to this Ayurvedic Spa. Kunyit / tumeric/ Curcuma Longa. She mince it with a mortar and pestle and rub it on her face- suppose to be good for brown spots . I thot Shasha ni fair takkan tak stain her face. So the next Sunday I went to Pasar Salak and bought serbuk kunyit- malas pound- the kind that was distributed by independent supplier rather than famous brands. Balik rumah gosoklah kat Muka. I must have overdone it- yelah turmeric powder versus fresh turmeric.

I looked in the mirror

GADDD.. I looked like the DIGI toyol...

Here's what I found on Kunyit - from Herbs

In Samoa, natives have used the powdered rhizome to treat skin ulcers, heal the navel of newborn children, get rid of pimples and relieve the pain and itching of dermatitis, eczema and psoriasis. In some cases, such as with diaper rash, the powdered rhizome is just sprinkled into the hand and then rubbed on the baby's skin. In other instances, however, some turmeric is mixed with a little coconut oil and gently applied to more severe inflammations.

In India and China, a little powdered turmeric is mixed with the juice from half a squeezed lime and a little water to make a smooth, even paste, which then is put directly onto herpes lesions, leprosy sores, measles, mumps, chickenpox and so forth with excellent results. Several crushed zinc tablets (50 mg. each) may also be added if desired. The same paste works well for snakebites, insect stings, and ringworm, too.

Among some Ayurvedic practitioners in India, it still is a common custom to use a piece of clean cloth soaked in turmeric solution for wiping away discharges of acute conjunctivitis and ophthalmia. And a little powdered turmeric is sometimes mixed with an equal amount of baking soda and then a tiny portion put into the outer ear to help dry up any fluid discharges.
A decoction of turmeric followed by 3 glasses of water is very helpful for alleviating any bleeding experienced during pregnancy. When combined with eggplant, it seems to be even more beneficial for this, and for healing wounds. Early pregnancy bleeding usually denotes threatened abortion and should, therefore, be taken quite seriously.

This remedy may be adapted for households. In 1 pint of boiling water, simmer 1 cup of diced eggplant on low heat for 45 minutes, covered. Strain into another pan and add 1/2 tsp. of powdered turmeric. Cover again and steep until this liquid becomes lukewarm. Strain through several layers of gauze and drink 1 cup at that time. Repeat this process each day for as long as needed to stop bleeding.

Turmeric has manifested remarkable anti-inflammatory properties by inhibiting induced edema and sub acute arthritis in rats and mice. These positive results are comparable to the same effects achieved by popular anti-inflammatory medications like hydrocortisone acetate and phenylbutazone. Two half teaspoonfuls taken morning and evening in juice can help somewhat.
Additional relief may be obtained for this disease, contusions, sprains and fractures by mixing together 2 tbsps. turmeric with 1 tbsp. lime juice and just enough boiling water to make a nice, smooth, warm paste. This can then be applied directly to the area of swelling and pain, and then covered with some plastic food wrap to retain the heat and moisture longer. The consistency of the paste should be similar to that of creamy peanut butter so that it can be spread on the skin easily.

Turmeric is good at lowering serum cholesterol levels and preventing fatty accumulations in and around the liver. Rats fed on diets containing 10% fat colored with turmeric showed virtually no fat buildup around the liver as did other rodents on the same diet but without the benefit of this spice. Turmeric works twice as well when combined with some cooked eggplant. Mix 3/4 tsp. turmeric with 2 tbsps. cooked, mashed eggplant and 1-1/2 tbsps. boiling water until smooth. This can be spread on a piece of rye or whole wheat bread and eaten following a meal of fatty foods to protect the liver.

Turmeric, a long-time folk remedy for liver disorders, can reduce inflammation in the liver and strengthen liver function. Today, natural healers often prescribe curcumin to people with hepatitis C, a common liver ailment. To add to its versatility, curcumin has also been used as an effective treatment for gallbladder disease.

Studies from Japan have confirmed that spices can increase shelf life of oils and fats. Turmeric and ginger, among other spices, showed significant antioxidant activity when they were added to olive, soybean or sesame oils. Interesting applications of turmeric have been found in extending the refrigerated storage life of seafood. Since turmeric is used popularly with most fish preparations, the effect of a dip treatment in turmeric, or turmeric with salt, each at 5% level for 15-30 minutes was studied by one group of scientists.

Control shrimp only had a shelf life of 13 days, developing black spots and fishy decomposition odor. But by dipping the shrimp in a turmeric plus salt dip solution, the shelf life increased another week. And when a combination of spice-salt dip plus irradiation was employed, shelf life increased to 42 days

Traditional remedy - Turmeric improves the action of the liver and is a traditional remedy for jaundice in both Ayurvedic and Chinese herbal medicine. Turmeric is also an ancient herb for digestive problems such as gastritis and acidity, helping to increase mucus production and protect the stomach. Turmeric also alleviates nausea.Arthritis & allergies - Even though turmeric does not relieve pain, its anti-inflammatory action makes it useful for arthritis, and other inflammatory conditions such as asthma and eczema.Circulatory disorders - Due to its anti-inflammatory- blood-thinning, and cholesterol- lowering properties, turmeric is now used to reduce the risk of strokes and heart attacks.Skin conditions - Applied to the skin, turmeric is useful in treating a number of conditions, including psoriasis, and fungal infections such as athlete's foot.Other medical uses - Breast cancer, Cervical cancer, Colorectal cancer, Lung cancer, Ovarian cancer, Prostate cancer, Viral infection.

New interest in turmeric - Despite its longstanding use in India and China, the therapeutic actions of turmeric were not researched until recent decades when there was an upsurge of interest in foods and medicines that lower cholesterol levels or have antioxidant properties (neutralize harmful free radicals). Research since the early 1970s, mainly in India, has confirmed turmeric's traditional actions and revealed potential new uses for it.Anti-inflammatory - Turmeric is a powerful anti-inflammatory. Turmeric has an even stronger action than hydrocortisone, according to research studies conducted between 1971 and 1991.Curcumin - When applied to the skin and exposed to sunlight, turmeric is strongly antibacterial. Curcumin is the constituent responsible for this action. Curcumin is also more strongly antioxidant than vitamin E.Cholesterol - Chinese clinical trials in 1987 indicate that turmeric lowers cholesterol levels.Cancer - Turmeric may be a valuable preventive remedy for those at risk of developing cancer, but more research is needed.Other actions - Research has shown that turmeric has an anticoagulant action, keeping the blood thin. Turmeric also increases bile production and flow, and has a protective action on the stomach and liver

Kita selalu buat kunyit perap ikan. Masak lomak cili padi-if can lower chorestrol- good combinationlah this. And I always put kunyit on my babies' nose when they have flu- supposedly help dry the mucus.

Weekend frenzy

I was supposed to send DH to workshop,- car ready kononnya- and then off to work. But then the car alarm went off and pueh den tokan2 tak stop2. Called Proton I care -

close all doors and press a dot thingy next to hazard light for 20 seconds-

It didn't work.

Switch engine off, open the front..

.the alarm stopped.. sigh.. I thot I had burst my eardrums.

Battery dead- kaput..

Called Ana, explained to her the situation- she volunteered to exchange with me..for next Saturday ..Waaa... I thot I could finish my reports that day. Sigh..

Dh called taxi to drive him to In*i College, rent a car, drove to the workshop- apparently his car can't be released - insurance has not given thumbs up yet..bought battery for my car.

DH tried to tinker with the battery- nut tak boleh bukak, tikus..

sorry sayang, thank you- jumpstart the car and drove back to the workshop.

I learnt two lessons that day- how to jumpstart car- but I 'd probably have to call DH for help if I encounter the same problem-

and lesson two- duh- do not leave your handphone outside.

I got a phone call from don't know who. called back no answer, I thot - maybe from office- the person will call me back. As I was weeding, pruning and putting on fertiliser around the graden, I put the phone on the slide. Finished gardening - went inside totally forgot about the handphone. It rained...heavily. DH saw the phone- and asked kakak to pick it up.Kenapa tak nak pick up for me I don't know. I almost cried. I don't want to but a new handphone- apart from there is no allocation for it this month- i haven't found a phone that I want to buy. I thot N76 was nice- colour pun purfect..but review was bad. The new thin samsung looks nice but still not worth substituting the old phone for. I slide the phone open- white light- sounds perfectly ok- taklah macam masuk air. DH advised that I used the hair dryer to dry it off. I pun buatlah- after a while I could see the screensaver when turned on but still ada strips of colours pecah2..Wail!! Then I heat it again- it went white on me again. Almost given up, I went upstairs and recharge my old phone and search for zi's number as I was supposed to meet zi after work to give her the regenerative serum- decided to change its name from anti ageing. Nasib baik ada from the old messages.

Half an hour later I switched on the phone again- perfect. Syukur alhamdullillah I don't have to buy a new phone.

I then went to the kitchen to start on making new batch of cleanser- I've finished mine and Intan wanted a new order. I also made a new batch of serum for mak u and myself.

Dh had to meet a few guys at Lake Club Putrajaya. We had no idea how to get there. We had to return the rented car and find our way there. At first Dh wanted to drop us of at Alamanda. I thot.. dah selalu pi- might as well pi Lake Club aje. The view from the Club was breathtaking, I could see the mosque . The kids wants to go in a boat but I don't want to go without their father. May be we'll make another trip later. Had dinner there and off to my mum's.

Mum and Amy planned to go to Linggi for Abah's batu nesan-tombstone. If she told me earlier we would have gone straight from our house, as Linggi is of course nearer to our house than mum's. And if we go to linggi, then we would go back to our house straight. Mentally- reminded myself to check her plans before going to her house next time. I had already planned to meet zi at Wan*a Ma*u Car**fo*r. Then we planned to go to Mak U's house around 5 - she wants a set too. Mum got back late from Linggi( she brought adik and kakak) by the time we reached Subang it was half past six.

Around half past eight we left for Sepang

Whew ..what a weekend.

The colour Purple / Ungu

Purple is Cqistina's favourite colour. She just love this colour.

Purple is also my current colour- I go through phases of favourite colour or food, things, hobbies. Last Saturday I bought two bracelets both has the colour purple and white. On Sunday I bought three plants. Misai Kuching -white and purple- , Hydrangea which is light purple/ blue tinge and Marigold- well yellow- I chose it because it's Marigold- tho I'm not really sure it is.

Ungu- is the name of the group who will be performing tomorrow. Their current single is good although I don't really know what kekasih gelapku means.

Kekasih Gelapku- Ungu

ku mencintaimu lebih dari apa pun
meskipun tiada satu orang pun yang tau
ku mencintaimu sedalam-dalam hatiku
meskipun engkau hanya kekasih gelapku
..yakinlah bahwa engkau adalah cintaku
yang ku cari selama ini dalam hidupku
dan hanya padamu ku berikan sisa cintaku
yang panjang dalam hidupku.

ku mencintaimu lebih dari apa pun
meskipun tiada satu orang pun yang tau
ku mencintaimu sedalam-dalam hatiku
meskipun engkau hanya kekasih gelapku.

One Satisfied Bookworm

On Saturday we went to my favourite sale- Payless bookstore at 3R. I would have gone on Friday if I had the time, not wanting to missed out on better books. Planned to see uncle Y with BIL and family.

DH ( rolling my eyes) had to go to the Seri Kembangan CIMB Bank. He does not have an ATM card- what nuisance- so everytime he ran out of money we have to go to Seri Kembangan, the MInes or if near Ampang to JJ wangsamaju - CIMB banks opens on Saturday or Sunday. Yeah- I 've told him to get the d**n card. His branch is in Malacca and whenever he has to take it- tak ada. typical of the bank- Two other banks I have accounts with - ATM card could be collected at the nearest branch. Yelah I have one in middle of KL and another in Ampang- kalau nak ambik card gitu- I'd have to take a day off, since banks except CIMBs do not open Weekends- except of course in KLCC. Or maybe it's his trick. I know I wouldn't want to be in that situation.

Bank not opened on Saturday is another issue that gets to me. Everyone nak buat banking during lunch hours. The poor cash machine deposit pun nak mogok. Yang geramnya one bank having the largest branches in Malaysia, cash deposit machine in the bank- lahabau betul - still have to go during banking hours.

Ok. The bank at Seri Kembangan Offline. Sigh... So had to go to the Summit- Oklah I thought- since I have to restring my rose quartz bracelet.- I am so gaga over gemstones/cystals - especially coloured ones. Just can't keep off them. And I bought two - totally unplanned. As it was a good bragain. One cost 135 and the other 185 but they offred me 200 for both ape lagi.... One is clean Quartz and Emethyst- AAA quality, no inclusion and the other I have never seen before - Sugilite. Cantik betul-

Then pusing2 the mall to search for new game boy advance catridge for the girls. Found Harry Potter and Order of the Phoenix at a very reasonable price.- ( after Dh went up and down the mall). Thot of buying Lara Croft the Legend- (we've been looking for the PC game tak jumpa), decided nantilah dulu. Speaking of Lara Croft - I remember 9 years ago- DH and I were crazy over the game. The Legend is the same as the first Lara Croft but with better graphics.

Hahaha- Shila and Lana now you know why we were late. Then we went to Payless' sale. Tons and tons of book. Some 5 at RM 12, some 70% and kids books especially those you find usually around RM 16- 17 tu at just RM3. I found who moved the cheese- been wanting to buy the book for ages- at RM 20- expensive by payless standard as no other book cost that much but buy it somewhere else- it'll cost more. I spend RM100 on two plastic bags. 10 mystery novels, 2 books on health ,10+ children books, an art book, a Baby book for Lana. i am so happy!!

By the time we reached Mak Z's Shila and Lana left. .Sorry!! Izan and Izreen were there.

Had dinner . My kids especially Qistina loved Mak Z's masak lemak and baked fish, had helpings.

On Sunday is terpleot in the house day. Around 5 we went to Cyberjaya Community centre. The kids had lovely time swimming.

Camillia suggested we go to Bagan Lalang for the hols. She wants to go fishing. The kids current favourite food is crab. Even Qistina, who's fussy about what she takes- chicken and beef tak makan- you wonder how she got to the size- loves crab. With qistina you have to coax her to try, or she'd say no immediately but once she likes the food, she'll want it everyday. Yesterday, we had beef masak lemak cili padi. Kakak will only eat the beef, she doesn't like the spicy gravy. Qistina will have the gravy only-she loves hot gravy even eat sambal- only with rice and adik will eat both gravy and beef.

Afiq's birthday, immotelle

Nephew Afiq turned 9 last week and sis Ida held a family gathering at my mom's. She wanted me to make eclairs- we got crazy for eclairs when we lived in Kenny Hills. There was a bakery- with delicious eclairs. Manalah pernah buek eclairskan. I thot I'd try making fruit tarts instead- I just can't get enough of them- tak pernah try buat pun - I thot it'd be easier than eclairs. I printed out both recipes from the net but accidently left them together with my sets of skincare in the office. Dahlah I had appointment with another friend who wanted to see them (skincare) on Sunday.

So on Saturday, sent adik and kakak to school. Called Ida for the recipe, she said too complicated so decided on the fruit tart- DH wanted them tarts too...fruit tart ok..

Anyway by the time Ida called me , it was 11 and we went to giant. By the time we finished it was around 1. And the birthday party were to start at 4. So I brought everything to Ampang. Thot mum combination oven can bake. Tak boleh rosak - n'ces pas. Kakak wanted to bake chocolate chip cookies, so by the time i started it was 4. hehehe.. family affair anyway kan not as if ada tetamu. My mum's oven is the gas oven without temperature on. The first batch of cookies was a little bit hangit but the kids finished it anyway- My kids always finish what they bake. Kakak said it taste better that F@mo*s A**s. Angkat bakul. I used the small toaster oven- no temperature jugak. 1st batch jadi rentung.

oklah bukan macam store bought- got to try again with proper oven. After party went to KLCC with Qistina and Afiq- for Afiq's present. Went to Isetan and bought transformer's pencil case/ colour pencil and a book on robots at Kinokuniya. Afiq very happy with his presents. Apparently he has been asking for the pensil case but his mum said no. Mak long didn't ask him just straight went to Isetan and bought it. Later at home his mum told me that he asked for the very thing. Mak long dia sometimes psychic. Mak Long garang- always marah Afiq but kalau beli toys, or books as long as I thot it is reasonably priced I'd buy them. Even for my kids- sometimes tak payah mintak mama dia dah belikan.

My skincare response is quite good. Intan, having used it for a week thot very well of it. She used to buy S* I* , but had allergy reaction to the fragrance. I told her the toner although fragrant is made from distilled rose water- the by product of essential oil- (not essential oil plus water) and I specially chose the organic rose hydrosol so there is no artificial chemical, pesticide, fertiliser that could cause allergy- unless you are allergic to the plant. She also bought my antiageing serum which has frankinese, myrrh and vetiver.

She raved to a collegemate who wanted to meet me on Sunday but the appointment was postponed as she wanted to bring two more friends with her, who was not free on the day.

I have ordered Rose geranium and Immotelle , extra ingredient for the serum. Immotelle is supposed to be good for scars and bruises. Many rave on the effectiveness of the essential oil. Can't wait to try it.
